Abstract
This one-week hands-on workshop focuses on the construction of a building façade using natural and reused materials. Participants will work on a façade for a container building on the Empa campus in Dübendorf, applying rammed earth and adobe brick techniques, and experimenting with different compositions and material applications. Objective
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: 1. Explain the basic principles of building with earth, including material properties, application methods, and potential uses. 2. Use hands-on experience with earth, mixing, forming, and bricklaying techniques in future design projects. 3. Discuss a collective workflow across multiple phases of a construction process. 4. Reflect on ecological and social values of earthen architecture in urban contexts.
