Abstract
Introduction to the theory of schemes.
Content
Introduction to the theory of schemes. Algebraic geometry is a subject with its roots in the mathematics of ancient Greece. It was revolutionised and vastly generalised by Alexander Grothendieck and others in the sixties and seventies, and has since continued to produce applications to and links with virtually all areas of mathematics, such as number theory, cryptography, and computer vision. The course offers an introduction of the modern theory of algebraic geometry, centered around schemes, mostly following Vakil's book. Topics include schemes, morphisms of schemes, fiber products, Chevalley's theorem, dimension theory, and algebraic curves.
