Abstract

Leading oneself and others can be challenging. Knowing how to handle stress and adversities, having clarity about one’s life goals and organising one’s daily routine in a sustainable way helps to remain focused. Not being afraid of conflictual situations but considering them as necessary for true agreements and knowing how to handle them leads to innovation and resilient (work) relationships.

Objective

By attending this third of in total four seminars covering leadership skills, you will: • Learn how to lead and manage yourself to achieve your life goals before leading others: Become aware of your stressors but also how you can undo them through various techniques while gaining clarity on what you really want to achieve with your life. • Resolve disagreements and conflicts in a constructive way: Learn how to identify potential disagreements and possible conflicts early enough to resolve them respectfully by undoing grudges and bad feelings while finding a solution which is acceptable to everyone involved.

Content

This seminar targets people that lead or wish to lead – in the role of project leader, subject matter expert, scrum/agile master, team lead in a self-organised team or hierarchical leader – and want to improve their self- and conflict management skills as they are another key ingredient to building and maintaining sustainable (work) relationships of any kind. In order to not only learn about tools and strategies of self- and conflict management, but also to directly try them out and test them, the seminar builds on a mixture of theory inputs, discussions, self-reflecting moments, group work with short presentations as well as some role plays. This shall enable you to manage your daily (work) life in a more relaxed way but also to be ready for the challenges of being a current or future leader. The first seminar day focuses on helping you learn how to lead yourself before leading others. On the one hand, you will explore all aspects of stress management, i.e. the identification of your individual stressors as well as strategies to undo them such as time management and planning skills but also relaxation techniques. On the other hand, you will review your work-life balance, think about your life goals and learn how to cope in a more resilient way with life’s adversities. The second seminar day covers all aspects of conflict management. You learn what a conflict is and how it influences our way of thinking, feeling and behaving. You try out communicative strategies to address disagreements and resolve conflicts. You discover the importance of nonviolent communication or why you should rather act as a giraffe than a jackal. Finally, you also sharpen your negotiation techniques and learn how to deal with emotions – your own as well as the emotions of others.
