Preservation: Schatzalp Keepsake
Denkmalpflege: Schatzalp Keepsake
Last Updated: 2026-06-01 11:30:31
Abstract
The course explores the concept of memory culture and the role of physical objects as carriers of collective and individual memories. The focus lies on the development and production of a «Keepsake» for the historic Hotel Schatzalp in Davos.
Objective
Students will gain knowledge of memory culture and reflect on its significance in the context of cultural tourism. The aim of the course is the independent creation of a conceptually grounded object that evokes memory processes and is precisely executed in its design.
Content
The course examines how memories are triggered by material objects and the role sensory impressions—such as materiality, form, and smell—play in this process. Students will develop their own keepsake, which will be produced over the course of the semester in a limited series. They will be supported in selecting materials and production techniques that align with their respective concepts. The seminar includes thematic inputs, presentations, and desk critiques.
