Abstract

This course helps doctoral students gain guided first-hand experiences about the scientific writing process. Working in groups, participants work through the phases of planning, drafting, revising, and publishing a paper.

Objective

After the completion of the course, participants will be able to - outline an article - search for literature and extract information from papers with AI-based tools - draft and revise a manuscript - provide constructive peer review - navigate the submission process

Content

Relying on a combination of online tailor-made materials (about verb forms, sentence and paragraph structure, punctuation, style, etc.) and in-class tasks (identifying a target journal, outlining, writing with AI-based tools, corresponding with editors, etc.), we focus on making the writing effective and the process efficient. Between workshops, participants work on their texts and provide feedback to each other while being coached by experts. At the end of the course, they receive expert feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of their manuscript.
