Abstract
Assignment-based course on stylistic, technical and cultural aspects of mathematical writing.
Objective
The goal of this course is to provide guidelines and practice for good mathematical writing, both in general stylistic terms and in concrete technical manner. Soft and hard skills will be trained through writing and reviewing assignments. It is also an introduction to the mathematical community, especially to some culture of the research community.
Content
The content includes (tentative): ◦ General guidelines for writing math papers (structure, format, language etc.) ◦ Good and bad examples, critical reading and reviewing ◦ Technical aspects (LaTeX, citations, online resources etc.) ◦ Community aspects (collaboration via Overleaf, teaching materials etc.) ◦ Eventual components contributed by other ETH specialists (ethics or AI or language skills) ◦ Exercises and writing assignments throughout the semester
