Abstract
In this reading group we dedicate ourselves to the work of Ethics by Baruch Spinoza. We explore together central concepts such as human freedom, the nature of feelings and the reason as a source of happiness. Our goal is to explore Spinoza's philosophical approaches and their significance for modern thinking.
Objective
In our reading group we deal intensively with the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza and his central work 'Ethics'. Together we dive into Spinoza's idea of freedom, reason and the laws of nature, through which he provides a rational basis for ethics and creates happiness in life. With particular attention to the role of reason we explore the complex nature of feelings, how Spinoza understands people and their emotions in a larger, divine natural context. Our goal is to explore Spinoza's ideas about human behavior and the importance of reason for a fulfilled life in order to shed light on their relevance for today.
