Abstract

This course addresses aspects of the history and theory er architecture with a particular focus on.their contemporary relevance and current interpretation.

Objective

Raising awareness for the contemporary importance and current interpretations of the history and theory of archltecture.

Content

The Poetics of Infrastructure In the history of architecture, works of infrastructure have been treated marginally at best. Often, they lack a recognizable author-architect, and they are hard to grasp in conventional architectural representations, such as section or elevation. Yet these are often buildings of enormous cost, political relevance, and not least they have a poetic echo. Road novels and road movies for instance are entire genres inspired by road infrastructures. This course examines the poetic effects and dimensions of infrastructural works in fiction, music and film. And it asks what these can teach us about architecture.
