Abstract
Remodeling and reuse is the order of the day. This should be learned (again). In this elective subject we construct with what we find. The limited range of materials requires a creative and flexible approach to joining and connecting. In addition to practical examples and lectures, we try to develop theoretical details using reused material.
Objective
Questions about both application in construction and expression should be answered. Which reused materials and elements are suitable for what and how are they assembled? What new aesthetics can be created and how can they be conveyed? The aim is to prepare the young generation of architects for the constructive use of reused materials. Using theoretical exercises and practical examples, an attitude towards building with existing things and its challenges and opportunities should be developed.
Content
Phase 1: Existing circular building practices and platforms are analyzed and discussed in the group. For a specific structural location, students search for suitable components digitally on platforms or demolition sites and document them in an inventory. This phase is accompanied by theoretical inputs and practical examples. Phase 2: In experimental exercises (in groups), details on a scale of 1:5 are constructed from the collected material. The focus is on the choice of materials for the specific location and on joining the individual elements. It is examined how one can react to a given situation with limited resources. Against the background of a new aesthetic, various forms of representation are also being examined.
