Practical Training in Bioinformatics

Abstract

Students will be introduced to and advance their programming skills in UNIX, python and R. Following the biological genotype-to-phenotype concept, students will learn to analyse DNA sequences, protein structures and imaging-captured phenotypes through weekly lectures and homework assignments.

Objective

Students will know the basic tools, databases and programming languages as they are used in applied bioinformatics. They will be able to process, transform and examine nucleotide sequences, protein structures and imaging data, which will empower them to solve problems in the field of biology.

Regular participation is mandatory to pass the course. Participation will be assessed in the form of assignments that need to be completed throughout different stages of the course.Students who do not delete their course registration until the end of the 4th week of the semester are considered registered for the course. If students are still registered for the course after that time and do not fulfill the performance assessment, they will receive a failing grade for the course.
