LERNfeld – Learning for the Future: Biodiversity and Climate Change in the Context of Agriculture

Abstract

Participants accompany school classes (from 5th grade primary to upper secondary level) on visits to farms and lead learning activities. They spark young people's interest in scientific inquiry and highlight various aspects of biodiversity and climate change in the context of agriculture.

Objective

After completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Plan and independently conduct age-appropriate inquiry-based learning activities with school classes on farms. 2. Communicate key interrelations between biodiversity, climate change, and agriculture in a way that is appropriate for diverse target groups. 3. Systematically collect and analyze observational and research data from school classes and interpret them in the context of biodiversity and climate change. 4. Support teachers in implementing inquiry-based formats and collaborate in designing meaningful learning opportunities. 5. Respond flexibly to challenges in the field and critically reflect on their role as mediators between science and society.

Content

Participation in the introductory course is mandatory. Afterwards, participants accompany school classes and their teachers independently on approximately 8–10 half-day visits. The assignments are organised by a central coordination office. Participants receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.
