Abstract

Digital technology is transforming how organisations create value, drive innovation and collaborate with ecosystem partners. During this course, we will explore the impact of digital transformation on organisations and the wider ecosystems organisations operate in. Using frameworks and tools, we explore how organisations can re-think and re-imagine new value creation and enhance competitiveness.

Objective

After completing this course students will be able to: - Apply strategic frameworks introduced in class to understand how digital transformation is impacting organisations - Analyse how organisations across industries have approached digital transformation in order to create new value - Understand the importance of wider digital ecosystems and inter-organisational collaboration modes for the creation of new digital products, services and solutions

Content

Those organisations that embrace technology-led transformation adapt and respond to emergent challenges ahead of others. This course is an action learning experience team-taught by two academic faculty. During the sessions, we will consider core themes, including value creation in digital environments and the challenges and opportunities for born-digital and incumbent businesses. We will discuss digital customer aspirations and you will gain experience of designing and evaluating dynamic digital journeys, leading to innovation and competitive realignment of organisations. You will work in teams to examine organisations and understand how they respond and adapt to fast evolving digital environments. Drawing on our own research, we will introduce you to strategic frameworks, which will also be useful in your own professional work. This course particularly appeals to those who are inquisitive about value creation and innovation and who wish to better understand the impact of digital technologies on organisations, industries and customers. We will explore how organisations across different industry sectors respond to the new digital opportunities. It is expected that learning from the course will help you to address identified challenges for your own organisation and build on your current knowledge. To manage expectations please note that although we encourage you to discuss digital transformation challenges facing your own organisations, we will not be able to resolve them within this 2-day course. It is essential that you complete the provided readings prior to the course.
