Abstract
This course is an introduction to theoretical and empirical discussions on economic development, with a focus on the challenges of developing countries over the last 50 years. The course provides answers to the following questions: How can and should development be measured? What factors drive economic growth and contribute to poverty reduction?
Objective
Students are able to - critically discuss economic questions in the context of developing countries - critically discuss policy recommendations for economic development.

MAS in Global Cooperation and Sustainable Development (The compulsory courses of NADEL are accessible only for students of the MAS in Global Cooperation and Sustainable Development and for qualified employees with at least two years experience in development cooperation and a Master's level or equivalent level of education as recognized by ETH. PhD students doing empirical research in development cooperation may be admitted "sur Dossier". The elective courses are open to master students of the ETH with registration/ waiting list.
