Abstract

This course teaches the basics of the physiology and anatomy of the human body.

Objective

The focus of this course is on understanding the physiological mechanisms of the human body. The focus is on the healthy person, supplemented by examples of clinically important functional disorders/diseases. In the sense of an integrative approach, the course covers everything from molecular mechanisms to the complex interaction of organs in the organism as a whole. Anatomy is discussed specifically where it is necessary or helpful for understanding function. The course comprises the fall semester (Part I) and the spring semester (Part II). In Part I, core concepts of physiology are taught, i.e. the basic mechanisms necessary for understanding all physiological processes. This enables students to apply these general principles to the functions of all organ systems and their interaction. Part I also introduces the general aspects of the nervous system and the endocrine system, as all organ functions are ultimately under nervous and endocrine control.
