Abstract

This course offers an introduction to unconventional superconductivity along a microscopic and a phenomenological line, based on the generalized BCS and Ginzburg-Landau theory, respectively. Concepts of symmetry and topology are essential to characterize different superconducting phases together with their experimental signatures which will be discussed for specific exemplary material classes.

Objective

At the end of this course, the students - know the main characteristics of unconventional superconductors. - have an overview over important material classes hosting unconventional superconductivity - can characterize superconductors in terms of their order parameter symmetry and topology. - know what experimental probes offer insights into the structure of a superconducting order parameter and how to interpret these experiments.
