Agile Project Management Introduction

Exclusively for MAS MTEC students (2nd semester). This course is designed for junior project collaborators and junior project managers with little experience in project management. It is not suitable for experienced project managers. Enrolment in all three courses “Agile Project Management Introduction”, "Project Management Applied (365-0881-00)” and "Advanced Project Management: Cases and Coaching (365-0881-01)" is not possible. Only ONE of these three project management courses can be taken during the MAS MTEC studies.

Abstract

It seems, agile and hybrid project methods are becoming more and more important. Is this the case? The participants shall be capable to assess this question for themselves. Therefore this course teaches internationally accepted and state-of-the-art agile basics for a result-oriented project planning and realization and its application in practical situations.

Objective

After taking this course, students … • know the frameworks, the principles and values of agile and how it differs from traditional project management methods. • are able to set up an agile project setting on the basis of a project charter. • can plan with agile techniques such as user stories, product backlog, sprint planning and estimation. • know how to execute a agile project including conducting daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, retrospective and others. • apply the key metrics such as velocity, burn-down charts and cycle time. • are able to manage agile teams including how to empower team members, facilitate collaboration and manage conflicts.

Content

The course is mainly aimed at junior project staff, junior project managers, junior scrum masters. Project management or project manager experience is not required. However, it is advantageous for participants to have minimal agile project work experience in order to be able to apply the knowledge in an ongoing project during the course. However, more experienced project staff who have not yet received a systematic introduction to agile project management are also addressed. The course covers the following topics: - Definition and basics of projects and project management - Principles of agile project management - Setup of an agile project, team, roles, tools - System analysis and project boundaries - Stakeholder management, communication in projects - Project planning - Project execution: diagnosis and steering - Analysis and management of risks and chances - Roll-out: documentation, instruction and training, project completion - Toolbox with tips and useful tools in project management The sequences are first explained with theory and then supplemented with examples and experiences. Subsequently, several sequences will be implemented in groups by means of a participants project example. So, if you want to realize a consistent agile project planning for your project, you will find a systematic instruction in this course.
