Hybrid Modeling: 3D-Printing for the Architectural Design
Hybrider Modellbau: 3D-Druck für den Entwurf
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 16:38:59
Abstract
A highly accurate context will be captured using drones and photogrammetry and then manually prepared for further use and 3D printing by us.3D printers will be provided to the student. No prior experience is necessary.hytac.arch.ethz.chThere is a cost to be incurred in for the Learningmaterial and the maintances and spare parts of the machines of CHF 50.00
Objective
Students are required to produce deliverables that build on each other in blocks. This ensures that all safety regulations are understood and hybrid model building techniques are mastered. The focus is that students learn how to create and process context models using drone imagery.
Content
In the first weeks the basics of 3D printing and photogrammetry will be covered. Afterwards, a voluntary excursion will take place to record the context by means of drones. From this a high resolution virtual 3D model will be extracted. This will be processed for visualization in the form of a point cloud and for 3D printing in the form of a mesh.
