Programming II - Stochastic Simulations
Programmieren II
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 16:39:04
Abstract
This course gives an introduction to the use of stochastic methods for the simulation of materials and their properties. Basic concepts of stochastics and probability theory are discussed, as well as how to implement and run the corresponding simulations within Python.
Objective
Students are able to... ...explain basic concepts of stochastics and probability theory ...independently develop computer programs for typical stochastic simulations (e.g., diffusion problems, random walk, percolation, ...), carry out the corresponding simulations, and critically analyze the obtained data. ...recognize situations/materials science problems where stochastic simulations can be beneficial.
