Applied Project Management

Abstract
This course further builds on knowledge and skills acquired in the compulsory course on Process & Project Management. Students apply project management tools in a very practical manner and develop basic skills for running projects successfully. They produce typical project management deliverables by using a representative industry example on drug development.
Objective
Students are able to: • Systematically apply the basic skills acquired in the course on Process & Project Management on producing project management deliverables for typical drug development projects. • Effectively debate the project strategy and decide on the project scope and objectives • Create ways to obtain support for a project, to manage and satisfy stakeholders • Methodically prepare project plans and understand how to control projects effectively. • Systematically produce a risk management plan and understand how to do change management. • Successfully prepare for rational decisions. • Manage teams and meetings, debate the right approach in the team and apply appropriate communication strategies.
Content
Project Management is the discipline of organizing and managing resources in such way that the project is completed within defined scope, quality, time and cost constraints. A project is a temporary and one-time endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service, which brings about beneficial change or added value. This property of being a temporary and one-time undertaking contrasts with processes, which are permanent or semi-permanent ongoing functional work to create the same product or service over and over again. Project Management: winning support for the project, stakeholder management; setting goals; effective planning and controlling; risk management; decision making; change management; managing teams; communication strategies.
