Objective
The students - know the performance characteristics of farm animals and how to breed them. - are able to calculate and assess simple pedigree relationships and inbreeding. - can calculate selection limits and selection success - can determine the breeding value from their own performance or the performance of relatives - know the advantages and disadvantages of pure and crossbreeding
Content
- Domestication, breeding history. - Genetic markers and their applications in animal breeding - Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, kinship, inbreeding - Model of performance, heritability, genotype-environment interaction - Breeding progress, selection, breeding value - Breeds, pure breeding, crossbreeding, heterosis - Key figures of reproduction, growth, meat yield, milk yield
