Abstract
This semester Material Cultures is interested in exploring the impact of a just transition to a decarbonized built environment on more than our carbon emissions. Working through film, drawing and making we will study existing material supply chains, before we question how they could be radically reimagined in a post carbon future.
Objective
-Critical engagement with regenerative design principles and living systems thinking, methods and theories relevant to architectural construction. -Ability to critically respond to and reflect on a site’s social, economic and environmental context, building a narrative through a script -Ability to evaluate materials, processes, and construction techniques relevant to architecture and spatial design, and to integrate this knowledge into a practical design proposal with structural, constructional and environmental integrity. -Ability to work collaboratively, recognise and resolve problems; apply professional judgement; and take initiative. -Demonstrate ethical and professional practice: acquiring communication skills to ensure projects are delivered with integrity and accountability.
