Abstract

In the design studio OUR HOUSE, we will work in the Limmat Valley, part of Zurich’s industrialised periphery. The students will transform a small-scale industrial structure into cooperative housing.

Objective

We work on architectural form and expression to construct an open, more just society. The architecture of the future will be a rich and disparate set of autonomous elements. The ideal of a pluralistic society is based on the autonomy of each individual. We want to look at architecture as a set of elements and relations that reflect, enable and transmit that ideal. We will look for new ways of inhabiting a building and for new ways in which the constructive elements of a building are assembled – a new tectonic understanding of architectural form and expression.
