Abstract

Introduction to (algebraic) number theory via representing integers as sum of squares.

Objective

Introduction to number theory, in particular to algebraic number theory.

Content

This seminar is intended for fourth semester bachelor’s students that haven’t previously learned any number theory. We will mainly follow chapters 3-8 of the textbook “A Journey Through the Realm of Numbers”, https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-55233-6 , and will hopefully address complementary topics at the end of the semester.
