Abstract

In preparation for scientific work, especially the physics lab courses as well as semester and master's theses, students receive an introduction to many relevant aspects of data acquisition (measurement technology), software-aided data processing (error calculus, statistics, comparison with models up to machine learning) and data representation (graphs, interpretation).

Objective

(a) Understanding of the measurement process in general; (b) Know-how in digital data analysis; (c) Capability to draw scientifically correct conclusions from data; (d) Outlook towards machine learning methods to analyze large data sets ("Big Data").

The exam takes place on devices provided by ETH Zurich.
Im Sinne der Lernelemente werden an drei Terminen Moodle-Kurztests durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse dieser Tests werden in einen Notenbonus von 0 bis 0.25 umgerechnet und anschliessend ungerundet zu der ungerundeten Note aus der schriftlichen Basisprüfung addiert. Der Bonus verfällt nachdem die Vorlesung erneut durchgeführt wurde
