Abstract
The aim of this lecture is to provide basic knowledge about organization of pig breeding, applied breeding value estimation, nutrition, diseases and their effects on product quality, and economics of pig production.
Objective
The students - understand the complex relationships between nutrition and product quality, - are familiar with the division of labor in breeding, propagation and production - are familiar with breeding value estimation - are able to critically analyze published research results - are able to present a scientific paper orally
Content
The following topics will be presented: - Pig feeding - Meat quality - SGD (pig health service) - pig breeding - applied breeding value estimation (with exercises) - Preparation of a presentation on a self-selected topic - Efficient pigs - excursion to the AgroVet Strickhof (keeping and evaluation of the animals (field test)
