Last Updated: 2026-02-05 14:55:05
Abstract
The course is designed for advanced students and tackles a broad range of issues in nano-optics that are often not found in elementary textbooks. Applications include quantum optics, opto-electronics, sensing, analytics and biophysics.
Objective
The course is designed for advanced students and aims to familiarize him/her with modern concepts and techniques that have been developed for investigating the interaction of light and matter at the nanometer scale. The course covers a broad range of applications and field of study ranging from quantum optics, opto-electronics, sensing and analytics to biophysics and will tackle issues in optics that are often not found in elementary treatments.
Content
This course discusses some current topics in Optics at the Nanometer Scale. In addition to fundamental topics such as Mie scattering, the course treats current issues of near-field optics, ultrahigh resolution optical microscopy, photonic crystals, microcavities, and plasmonics. Application of these concepts in various disciplines such as quantum optics, opto-electronics, analytics and sensing, as well as biophysics will be discussed.
