Objective
- Showing the importance of standardisation, quality control and grading for the robustness of buildings and for the optimised utilisation of timber. - Discussing different quality criteria in relation with timber application and developing measures to ensure durable and efficient timber construction.
Content
- Causes of grading, methods, statistical background, reliability of buildings, grading procedures in Switzerland and in Europe, potential of Swiss timber, causes of standardisation, overview DIN 1052 / SIA164 / SIA265, com-parison with other materials. - Building damages as a consequence of quality deficits, quality aspects in timber construction, strain factors es-pecially in outdoor application, guidelines and structural concepts to promote a high quality timber utilisation.
