Research Methods in the History and Theory of Architecture
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:54:52
Abstract
Introduction to methodological approaches in the history and theory of architecture; presentation and discussion of individual doctoral projects.
Objective
The doctoral students analyse critically relevant approaches in the history and theory of architecture. Through group discussions and individual presentations, they refine the scope, aims and methodologies of their proposals, in preparation for the research plan submission at the end of first year.
Content
The two-semester course in the first year of the doctoral program in the history and theory of architecture has a twofold objective. Firstly, reading sessions on central approaches in the history and theory of architecture provide a methodological basis for a doctorate at the Institute gta. Secondly, sessions comprising individual presentations by doctoral students and feedback discussions will assist students in the preparation of the research plan, which they have to present at the end of first year.
