Abstract

The course provides an overview of how the disciplines of seismology, geology and earthquake engineering interact in the assessment of seismic hazard and mitigation through earthquake-resistant construction. Different methods for site characterisation as well as the input data and guidelines necessary for earthquake-resistant design are highlighted in the course.

Objective

Participants are able to describe the role of handling earthquake hazards within the framework of integral natural hazard management and discuss earthquake-induced natural hazards.
