Abstract

This seminar introduces students to research and innovation in the area of media technology.

Objective

The objectives of this seminar are twofold: (1) learning about recent developments in the area of media technology at the intersection of computer vision, computer graphics, natural language processing, and machine learning and (2) to improve presentation and critical analysis skills.

Content

The media industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation caused by digitalization. Media consumption is shifting away from traditional media such as TV or newspaper towards mobile and delayed consumption. The boundaries between media producers and consumers are getting blurred, and personalized content is increasingly important. Machine learning and AI are crucial tools to help to create better content, understand the consumers’ preferences and surface the essential stories in times of information overload. This seminar introduces students to the latest research in the field of media technology and innovation. It is an exciting field laying at the intersection of computer vision, computer graphics, natural language processing, and machine learning. The seminar will cover a broad spectrum of topics considering not only the technical innovations but also the possibilities these technologies provide to professionals in the media industry and consumers of media.
