Architectural Design V-IX: Letzi (M. Peter)
Entwurf V-IX: Letzi (M. Peter)
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:42:26
Abstract
In the remaining plots of the rapidly changing Letzi area in Zurich, we are trying to determine the location (15 years after the mission statement “Letzi - principles for area development”). We look at the individual, huge areas: How does the urban life connect the street spaces and their scenarios with the areas of access and residence in the depth of the plots?
Objective
Ability to control the design process from program to presentation increasingly independently and independently and to find an individual design methodology and attitude.
Content
The urban space - the exterior, which sets itself apart from the depiction of the interior through a reverse viewer's perspective and blocks the view into the interior of a private room - is not only the major topic in the photographs by Lee Friedlander and Jeff Walls, but also the subject of the investigation in the spring semester 2020. In the remaining plots of the rapidly changing area of Letzi in Zurich, we are attempting to determine the location - 15 years after the motto «Letzi - Principles for Area Development». We look again at the individual, huge areas with their only fragmentary interlocking with the «tessuto urbano» and ask ourselves how the urban life connects the street spaces and their scenarios with the spaces of access and residence in the depth of the plots. The task relates to structures of the highest flexibility - that is, both to the interior of the house and the space of the facade. The living and working programs are closely linked to the urban space on a scale of spatial transitions. Each design is an attempt to work out urban planning qualities through the plastic operation of spatial formation and to stabilize the weak public space figure. The projects move between "location" and anonymity, open building structure and permanence as well as city and scale. As a preliminary exercise and entry into the semester, each student creates a morphological sketch of the city level.
