Abstract

In Spring 2020, Don18 will look back at the digital aesthetics and artistic collaborations from the 1990s, and trace its influences in today's digital world. On the example of artistic and architectural works Don18 will examine how the contemporary flood of pictures and information has affected the approach towards political, social, economic, and bodily needs.

Objective

Students will: - become acquainted with concepts and questions of the recent art and architecture history and media theory. - gain new insights into the work of international artists and architects. - further develop their own position and voice by contributing to discussions with their peers, teachers and academic guests.

Content

DON18 (Donnerstags um 18 Uhr) is an ongoing art and architecture dialogue series, which brings leading international practitioners to discuss timely issues, often related to courses being taught simultaneously in the Chair of Philip Ursprung. In Spring 2020, Don18 will look back at the digital aesthetics and artistic collaborations from the 1990s, and trace its influences in today's digital world. On the example of artistic and architectural works Don18 will examine how the contemporary flood of pictures and information has affected the approach towards political, social, economic, and bodily needs. A selection of relevant literature will be provided and texts will be read in preparation of the events.
