Abstract

Introductory lab course in experimental physics with accompanying lecture

Objective

The student lab and the corresponding lecture address fundamental challenges of experimental physics. The following aspects are treated in particular: - Motivation and methodology of experimental physics - Experimental setups, knowledge of basic measurement methods and instruments - Introduction to statistical analysis and error calculation of data - Critical evaluation and interpretation of data - Graphical and written presentation of results - Ethical aspects of experimental research and scientific communication
