Sensor- und Aktorsysteme II
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 14:57:23
Abstract
Design and application of physical sensors, actuators and telemetry.
Objective
The student will learn about the market availability, technology, specifications, constructive design and application areas of passive sensors for physical measurements. An overview of sensor and actuator systems as well as remote-control and telemetry systems is provided. With this knowledge the student will be able to select the appropriate sensors and actuators for mechatronics problems.
Content
- Passive sensor systems: potentiometer sensors, strain gauge technique with application examples, thin-film technique, piezoresistive sensors and their compensation methods. Magnetoresistive, Hall-effect and field-plate sensors, temperature-dependent NTC/PTC resistors, and their use in sensor systems. - Optical sensor systems: light barrier and retro-reflective sensors, position and distance sensors, laser measurement systems, time-of-flight 3D camera, fiber-optic intrinsic and extrinsic sensor systems for process control. - Inductive and capacitive sensor systems for proximity switches, high-speed interface for capacitive and inductive sensors, LVDT with circuit. - Oscillating systems for the measurement of temperature, force and very small masses, quartz oscillator for pressure and nano-profile measurement, high resolution string sensors. - Actuator systems: electromagnetic actuators, piezoelectric composite and multilayer ceramics, micro manipulator and ultrasonic motors. - Magnetostrictive drives, bimetal and shape memory actuators, thermal expansion and electrochemical actuators, electro- and magneto-rheologic liquids. - Radio, optical and passive telemetry and data loggers. Practical demonstration of sensor and actuator systems.
