Introduction to Scientific Practice for Material Scientists

Abstract
The students are introduced to the role of the Material Scientist in research and industry. Through case studies, the students become acquainted with the approach and perspective of material scientists in research and development practice. The students practise acquiring, analysing and synthesising scientific information and data, and communicating their findings in written and oral form.
Objective
Learning Objectives: The students - understand how to structure projects according to material science criteria. They understand how this enables them to efficiently develop or improve products & processes. - can write lab reports according to standard scientific criteria. They can protocol lab experiments correctly in a lab journal. - understand the role of group dynamics in teamwork. They have practised effective communication strategies and reaching decisions within a group. - can read and analyse new scientific texts in a structured, critical and efficient manner. - are familiar with key rhetorical and communication rules for oral presentations. They can create effective oral presentations on scientific content.
