Objective

Knowledge of classical and modern physical effects for use in active sensors and actuator systems. Knowledge of market availability, specifications and application areas of sensor and actuator systems available today. Knowledge of the economic importance and market development.

Content

- Introduction: application and economic importance of sensor systems, measured parameters, selection criteria for measurement principle and sensors, quality characteristics, application and importance of actuator systems. - Fundamentals of measurement technique and terms. - Active sensor systems:
Fundamentals of piezoelectricity, detailed treatment of piezoelectric sensor systems with quartz, piezoceramics and PVDF film. Presentation of selected piezo sensor systems and their measuring amplifiers, piezogenerators for voltage generation and small power supply units. Electromagnetic sensors, impulse wire sensors, thermocouples, photoelements, pH sensors, lambda probes. - Actuator systems: piezoelectric actuators, microservo components and travelling wave motors, bimetallic sensors and actuators. Practical demonstration of sensor and actuator systems.
