Abstract

This course is run as block course on Tu 10th of June (8:15-12;00, NO F39), Th 12th of June (whole day, field work in Sargans) and Fr 13th of June (8:15-12:00 + 13:15-15:00, NO F39). The course gives an introduction to digital mapping in geosciences from data collection to the final map construction, focusing on the application of different digital mapping tools to produce a geological map.

Objective

The students are able to: • prepare a tablet for the field work; • work in the field using a tablet to map lithological contacts and structures, and acquire georeferenced structural data, field notes, field pictures; • process the data acquired in the field and produce a geological map in digital format

Content

The following topics are covered: • Introduction to softwares used in the field (FieldMove, FieldClino); • Access to spatial geodata in Switzerland, but also worldwide; • 1 day excursion in Sargans with practical training; • Introduction to QGIS to produce a digital map;
