Abstract

The Pathobiology course explores the mechanisms underlying diseases and their clinical manifestations. We will use case reports focusing on common diseases, ranging from low to high urgency, to help students understand disease presentation and formulate plausible diagnoses.

Objective

This course integrates molecular biology, pathology, and medicine to explore the biological basis and medical aspects of human diseases. The curriculum presents common diseases based on their clinical urgency to train students in patient assessment, triage, and diagnosis by interpreting symptoms, clinical data, and underlying pathophysiology. Key skills developed include using the LINDAFF history-taking framework and assessing disease urgency. A mandatory group project requires student groups to research a disease, covering pathophysiology, epidemiology, diagnostic criteria, and differentials to create a poster which will be presented in an oral presentation (contributing 20% to the overall course grade).
