This course will cover the basic links between organic and polymer chemistry, state-of-the-art polymerization methods in industry and academia (e.g materials each method can synthesize), the synthesis of complex materials, chemical recycling of polymeric materials (chemistry, engineering, thermodynamics), polymeric nanoparticles (effect of shape on properties & applications and polymer elecronics.
Modern polymer synthesis (beased on recent development of new orgnic reactions) is discussed to enable students to develop synthesis schemes for certain target structures. Both chain (ionic, coordination, ROMP, radical, catalyst-transfer) and step-growth polymerizations (transition metal catalysis) including how to achieve living polymerization or improve selectivity will be discused.
Basic definitions, types of polyreactions, constitution of homo- and copolymers, networks, configurative and conformative aspects, contour length, coil formation, mobility, glass temperature, rubber elasticity, molecular weight distribution, energetics of and examples for polyreactions.
