Introduction of the different waste management systems in Switzerland and the European Union. Emphasis is on current solid wastes incineration technologies. Practical aspects of incinerator design and operation for treatment of municipal solid waste, product design with new generation thermal treating and different recycling technologies are discussed.

The course is organized in the form of seminars held by the students. Topics selected from the core disciplines of the curriculum (water resources, urban water engineering, material fluxes, waste technology, air polution, earth observation) are discussed in the class on the basis of scientific papers that are illustrated and critically reviewed by the students.

Einfuhrung in Konzepte und Methoden einer kombinierten Evaluation und Modellierung technischer und okonomischer Zusammenhange in Regionen und Unternehmen. Die Studierenden sollen lernen, die Methoden am Beispiel ihrer Anwendung in aktuellen Studien zu verstehen (Beispiel: Reduktion der CO2-Emissionen) und in einfachen Fallbeispielen anzuwenden.
