The lecture introduces the principles of the electric-field controlled light propagation in different materials (crystals, polymers, liquid crystals). These effects are of fundamental importance for optoelectronics and optical information technologies. Basic electro-optic effects, photonic structures, essential materials, and most important applications are introduced.
This course gives an overview of important concepts in classical dynamics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, quantum physics, atomic physics, and special relativity. Emphasis is placed on demonstrating key phenomena using experiments, and in developing skills for quantitative problem solving.
