The ETH Global Development Summer School provides young researchers with the opportunity to work on current and sustainability-related topics in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams. Focus is given not only to teaching theoretical knowledge but also to solving specific case studies.
This course introduces microscopic traffic simulation using SUMO. It has two phases: first, students learn to build networks, generate demand, and calibrate models to match real data. Second, they design future scenarios (e.g., infrastructure or demand changes) and implement traffic control using Python and TraCI, presenting solutions to traffic bottlenecks.
The course covers road transportation technologies, network design, traffic flow theory, operations of private and public transport, management and control of intelligent transportation systems.
Fundamentals of traffic flow theory and control.
Transport Basics
Verkehr GZ
-Introduction to the fundamentals of transportation-Developing an understanding of the interactions between land use and transportation-Introduction to the dynamics of transport systems: daily patterns and historical developments
Transportation Engineering Lab
Projektübung Verkehr
The goal is to integrate the contents of the lectures of the block “Transportation” through a joint set of exercises which will allow the students to understand how the parts come together in the design of transport systems. The exercise will be based on a Swiss city. The exercises will involve onsite work.
