Astrophysical Colloquium
Astrophysics
During the semester there is a colloquium on topics in astrophysics every week. In general, colloquia are 45 minute reviews on topics of general interest by local researchers or by guests. Some of the colloquia are more specialized, but last only 20 minutes and are given by members of the Institute of Astronomy to inform about their current work.
From Black Holes to the Intergalactic Medium: High-Energy Aspects and Interpretation
Vom schwarzen Loch zur intergalaktischen Materie: Hochenergieaspekte und Interpretation
The course presents physical processes in clusters of galaxies where the smallest scales near the Black Hole of active galaxies influences the largest scales in the environment. These processes control the formation and evolution of the gas component in clusters of galaxies.
Physics of Star and Planet Formation
Physik der Stern- und Planetenentstehung
This course imparts the physical fundamentals as well as new observational results for the overall flow of genesis of stars and planet systems.
Plasma Astrophysics
Plasma-Astrophysik
The physics of (partially) ionized gases is introduced in view of applications in star formation and planet formation. The magnetohydrodynamic equations are derived discussed and applied in waves, wave properties and propagation. The course also includes accretion shocks, instabilities in the accretion disk and radiation. Further topics are reconnection and acceleration of particles.
