Dynamic Earth II
Dynamische Erde II
Processes on Earth surface: Climate, water cycle, weathering and erosion, transport, sedimentation. Rock deformation. Geochronology, stratigraphy and Earth history.
Geological Mapping in the Alps in pairs with an assigned supervisor. Common activities are an introductory excursion, and a final presentation of the report and map, either in the field or in class. The scheduled two weeks are set at the beginning and end of the summer, to allow interested students to add some mapping days.
Field course III: Structural Geology - Mapping - Non-Alpine regions.
Geologischer Feldkurs III: Struktur - Ausseralpin

Geological Field Course II: Sedimentary Rocks
Geologischer Feldkurs II: Sedimente
Mapping of sedimentary rocks and stratigraphic units with the final production of a geological map at 1:10.000 scale. Writing a report illustrating the main facies and characters of the units, the Quaternary surficial deposits and the tectonic structures affecting the sedimentary rocks.
Structural Geology
Strukturgeologie
Description and introduction to the development processes of1) Brittle structures (faults, joints, cracks and veins)2) Ductile structures (folds, foliations, lineations, and shear zones)3) Introduction to finite strain
Structural geological seminar
Strukturgeologie Seminar

Structure, evolution, and dynamics of tectonic systems across divergent, convergent, strike-slip, and intraplate settings. Emphasizes integration of geological and geophysical observations to understand lithosphere-scale deformation, plate-boundary architecture, and links among tectonics, topography, and surface processes, with comparative examples from other planetary bodies.
