Multivariable Feedback Design
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:06:54
Abstract
This course will cover the design of multivariable feedback systems in the "robust control" framework developed in the 1980's and 1990's. Student problems and assessments will be computer-based and involve use of Matlab's control-related toolboxes.
Content
This course will cover the design of multivariable feedback systems in the "robust control" framework developed in the 1980's and 1990's. It will roughly follow the development in my 1989 textbook, but updated with material on Glover-McFarlane loop-shaping and on the Vinnicombe nu-gap metric. Connections with LMI and SOS techniques will also be indicated. The emphasis will be on design objectives and methods, with less emphasis on rigorous mathematics. Student problems and assessments will be computer-based and involve use of Matlab's control-related toolboxes.
