Case studies

Fallstudien aus der Praxis

251-0820-00L 2006S , 2007S , 2008S 3 Credits BSC , DS , MSC D-INFK

Objective of the course is to provide students with insight regarding topics, which graduated computer scientists work on in their practice and to thus create a bridge between university and practice. Representatives from practice - typically ETH-graduates - present actual case studies, in which participants are encouraged to think through and solve the respective case study.

The courses "Foundations of Computer Science" cover material that all students of computer science should know. The courses are self study courses and based on material which we assume that students know from their Bachelor program. The main aim of these courses is to ensure that all our Master students have a solid knowledge all over computer science and not just in their area of expertise.

The lecture's goal is teaching of knowledge and skills needed for building custom operating systems and runtime environments. Relevant topics will be studied in detail at the example of sufficiently simple systems that have been built at the Institute in the past, ranging from purpose-oriented single processor real-time systems up to generic system kernels for Symmetric Multi Processors.
