The main course objectives are to introduce students to the exciting world of metamaterials designed for optical and mechanical applications. Focus is on its most important physical concepts and fabrication techniques.
The aim of this course is to understand the principles of material design and selection, and apply them in a number of relevant case studies related to energy, health, information technology, etc. Examples will include all materials classes. It discusses the design challenges that arise when a combination of properties and geometries are required for a specific application.
Materials+ is a team-based learning course focusing on sustained learning of key material concepts. This course teaches critical thinking and solving hands on material problems. The students will work in groups of five to solve a materials challenge. The eight week-long project includes a poster presentation and culminates in a materials challenge, where all groups compete against each other.
