Polymerization reactions and processes. Homogeneous and heterogeneous (emulsion) kinetics of free radical polymerization. Product characterization in terms of distributions of molecular weight, chain composition and chain sequences. Design of homo- and co-polymerization processes for specific product characteristics. Post treatment of polymer colloids. Kinetics and design of aggregation processes.

The course is focused on the design of Chemical Processes, with emphasis on the preliminary stage of the design approach, where process creation and quick selection among many alternatives are important. The main concepts behind more detailed process design and process simulation are also examined in the last part of the course.
