In the lecture part, the objective of this course is to understand the basic concepts needed to understand the evolution, structure, and dynamics of the Earth from the perspectives of the mineralogy and crystallography.In the exercise part, the students familiarize with about 70 minerals and their macroscopic properties.

Block course involving lectures, exercises and practical application of inclusion petrography, microthermometry, Raman and LA-ICPMS microanlysis

Physical properties of minerals, e.g. electrical properties, elasticitcal properties are discussed.The effect of the crystal symmetry on the symmetry of physical properties as well as the mathematical formulation of the physical properties are major topics.
