Dynamische Erde I
Provides a basic introduction into Earth Sciences, emphasizing different rock-types and the geological rock-cycle, as well as introduction into geophysics and plate tectonic theory.
Dynamic Earth II
Dynamische Erde II
Processes on Earth surface: Climate, water cycle, weathering and erosion, transport, sedimentation. Rock deformation. Geochronology, stratigraphy and Earth history.
Geological Field Course II: Sedimentary Rocks
Geologischer Feldkurs II: Sedimente
Mapping of sedimentary rocks and stratigraphic units with the final production of a geological map at 1:10.000 scale. Writing a report illustrating the main facies and characters of the units, the Quaternary surficial deposits and the tectonic structures affecting the sedimentary rocks.
Grundlagen der klastischen und biochemischen Sedimentation.Archivbildung in limnischen Ablagerungen. Methoden der Limnogeologie (Seismische Untersuchungen, Kernentanhme, Labormethoden).Limnogeologie und Umwelt: Entwicklung der Umwelt- und Gewässerbelastung durch den Menschen. Interpretation von Seesedimenten als Indikatoren für Klimaveränderungen.
This course links lakes, their subsurface and their environment. It will be discussed how lake sediments record past environmental changes (e.g. climate, human impact, natural hazards) and how lake sediments can be used to reconstruct these changes. Emphasis is also given on the modern limnologic processes essential in interpreting the fossil record. Field and laboratory work is foreseen.
